Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship 2010 – Summary

June 24, 2010

Surely, the avid computer user knows a thing or two about overclocking. Starting out from its humble beginning as a geek’s choice of pastime activity, overclocking has now become a widely accepted –not to mention prestigious- practice and it has even set a trend among computer users worldwide. The computer industry responded by releasing products that are specifically aimed towards overclockers, much to the delight of the community.

Numerous overclocking competitions then sprang up to accommodate the need for an official proving ground. Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship is one such competition. This year, Indonesia was chosen as the staging event for one of its regional finals. Overclockers from all over the Asia-Africa region would test their skills against one another, here in Jakarta. We immediately rushed to the scene to cover the story, while bringing along our own overclocker: Alva Jonathan, a long-time local player who is always eager to prove his mettle in the overclocking battleground.

Day One, Air Cooler for Local Players

The event took place at Mangga 2 Mall, Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 18 through 19 2010. The first day was reserved as a preliminary session to select two contestants from Indonesia who would represent their country in the qualification round for the Asia-Africa region the day after, where they would compete against contestants from 15 other countries. Naturally, everyone was eager to show off what they could do.

When the contestants were all busy warming up and preparing their rig, we sneaked around and point our camera on the unsuspecting contenders. These are our snaps of the Indonesian overclockers in day one:
