[PR] Demand for NEC iPASOLINK Mobile Backhaul Grows as Orders Surpass 110,000 Units Within a Year
Since its September 2010 launch 100 operators in 55 countries have adopted iPASOLINK to support migration to all-IP networks
Tokyo, September 28, 2011 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today that order receipts for NEC’s iPASOLINK series have surpassed 110,000 units from nearly 100 operators spanning 55 countries, across Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. iPASOLINK, NEC’s flagship backhaul transport solution, was launched in September 2010 and celebrates its one year anniversary on the back of a firm commitment from global operators.
iPASOLINK is a converged flexible platform designed to meet the capacity, topology and intelligence requirements for the transformation of both fixed and mobile networks to the next generation of technologies, including 4G LTE. Its modular, flexible, all-in-one converged design incorporates packet, microwave and optical technologies. This ensures that network operators can deploy high-performance, next-generation networks without incurring unnecessary costs.
“Operators worldwide in countries as diverse as Russia, Indonesia and Mexico face the challenge of making significant investments in providing next-generation mobile broadband services such as LTE while managing CAPEX and OPEX. Our global customer agreements prove that mobile operators have the appetite for a single, converged and flexible backhaul platform that they can manage and adapt according to their network service demands,” said Hiroyasu Ishii, General Manager of NEC’s Global Network Division.
The iPASOLINK Series is a new generation of PASOLINK products that is also compatible with earlier generations of the series. Since the launch of PASOLINK in the early 1980s, mobile communications has rapidly expanded and PASOLINK has been widely adopted as a microwave communications system for mobile backhaul, with shipments of approximately 1.7 million units throughout 145 countries. NEC will be exhibiting at the Packet Microwave Forum taking place in London (October 3-5, 2011). The company will be providing live demonstrations of iPASOLINK’s ability to manage multiple transport networks and address an operator’s capacity and traffic requirements. This will be accompanied by a demonstration of NEC’s unified transport Network Management System MS5000.
