The 890GX chipset sits on the second-highest position in AMD’s current lineup, which means that it’s an enthusiast product designed for high-end systems. However, this is not the case with Foxconn’s A9DA-S, a motherboard based on the 890GX. Priced well below US$ 100, the A9DA-S offers 890 GX’s features and performance while keeping the cost at a minimum. Maybe Foxconn is trying to attract budget-conscious system builders with this low-priced alternative.<br />

<p>The package box design is rather unassuming with only few marketing gimmicks as opposed to the box of high-end motherboards which are usually adorned with all sorts of writing to explain the features. Still, what counts is the motherboard (and bundle) inside.</p>

Mengapa? Karena walau menggunakan form factor yang kecil namun motherboard ini mengusung chipset high end dalam bentuk 890GX. Apakah performa akan sebanding dengan &#8220;saudara&#8221;-nya yang meggunakan form factor ATX? Mari lihat bersama.</p>
<p>Kiprah J&amp;W di kelas Mini-ITX cukup dikenal terutama dengan seri MINIX nya. Pendatang baru di kelas ini adalah MINIX AMD890GX-USB3. Dari namanya pun kita pun tahu bahwa chipset yang digunakan adalah chipset tertinggi AMD yang menyertakan graphic onboard. Ini merupakan langkah yang cukup menarik dari J&amp;W, mengingat para pengguna form factor Mini-ITX adalah para pengguna yang lebih mementingkan konsumsi daya yang rendah dan performa yang tak terlalu tinggi. Tawaran baru J&amp;W ini dapat membuat para pengguna mini-ITX mengkaji kembali kebutuhannya. Tapi apakah performa yang diusung motherboard ini sebanding dengan motherboard berchipset sama yang menggunakan form factor ATX ? Inilah yang akan kita uji pada review kali ini.</p>

<p>Datang dengan kemasan hitam yang telah menjadi ciri khas dari seri motherboard MINIX dari J&amp;W. Satu hal yang sedikit dari unik motherboard ini adalah dia menempatkan keterangan spesifikasi di bagian depan kemasan. Mungkin ini dilakukan untuk memperjelas isi dari kemasan motherboard. Cukup masuk akal mengingat sangat jarang ditemukan motherboard Mini-ITX yang menggunakan chipset AMD 890GX.</p>

<p>Elemen yang sedikit berbeda hanyalah disertakan dua buah antena Wi-Fi. Sepertinya motherboard ini memiliki kemampuan untuk menggunakan fasilitas jaringan nirkabel. Sebuah nilai plus terutama bagi yang ingin menggunakan motheboard ini sebagai HTPC.</p>

Hal ini berubah ketika AMD memperkenalkan chipset dengan sufix GX. Dengan chipset ini, AMD memberikan kombinasi antara chipset kelas atas dengan onboard graphics. Chipset GX merupakan variasi chipset FX dengan mengurangi beberapa fitur (seperti jalur PCI Express) tetapi dengan onboard graphics yang cukup mumpuni. Memang solusi onboard graphics yang diberikan tidak mungkin menggantikan graphic card terpisah, tetapi untuk gaming dengan resolusi menengah, performanya cukup bersaing.</p>
<p>Generasi terbaru dari chipset GX ini adalah AMD 890GX yang merupakan varian dari chipset ethusiast 890FX (tentunya dengan sedikit perbedaan). Chipset 890GX hanya memiliki 22 jalur PCI Express, separuh dari yang dimiliki 890FX. Tetapi, 890GX dilengkapi dengan ATI Radeon HD4290 onboard graphics yang berbasis DirectX 10.1 dan Universal Video Decoder 2. Untuk lebih jelasnya, mari kita lihat tabel perbandingan berikut.</p>

<p>Dari grafik tersebut, terlihat bahwa fasilitas yang ditawarkan chipset ini cukup lengkap. Walau telah menggunakan onboard graphic, bukan berarti chipset tidak menyediakan fasilitas ekspansi dan graphic card terpisah. Jalur PCI Express yang disediakan 890GX bahkan memungkinkanya untuk menggunakan fasilitas multiple graphic card dengan CrossFireX. Dengan dipasangkan chipset southbridge yang sama dengan 890FX, fitur-fitur seperti USB dan SATA sama persis dengan saudara enthusiastnya.</p>
<p>Lalu, apa yang istimewa dari ASRock 890GX Extreme 3? Beberapa  fitur yang patut dikedepankan antara lain Turbo 30 dan Intelligent  Energy Saver (IES). Turbo 30 mengetengahkan fitur overclocking yang  cukup mudah tanpa harus repot mengatur parameter-parameter yang  diperlukan. Sedangkan Intelligent Energy Saver menawarkan penghematan  daya dalam pengoperasian sehari-hari. Kedua Fitur ini akan kami uji  lebih lanjut di bagian pengujian. Tentunya pengguna atau calon pengguna AMD Thuban sudah pasti menunggu dirilisnya chipset ini.</p>
<p>Salah satu chipset tersebut adalah chipset pengganti dari 790GX yaitu 890GX. Chipset ini dipasangkan dengan southbridge SB850, sehingga dapat menghadirkan feature terbaru saat ini, SATA 6 Gbps. Pasangan chipset ini juga menghadirkan graphics onboard &#8211; yang saat tulisan ini dikeluarkan masih merupakan yang paling kencang &#8211;  HD 4290 (mampu menjalankan DirectX 10.1).</p>
<p>HD 4290 berjalan pada clock 700 MHz dan memiliki 40 shader unit. HD 4290 juga mampu dipasangkan dengan ATI Radeon HD 5450 dengan mode Hybrid CrossFire sehingga pengguna bisa mendapatkan sedikit tambahan performa  dengan tambahan dana yang minimal. Spesifikasi serta perbandingan antar chipset seri 800 yang dikeluarkan AMD dapat diihat di bawah ini:</p>

<p>Dari SB710, SB850 memiliki tambahan dukungan jumlah port USB 2.0, dari 12 buah menjadi 14 buah. SATA 6 Gbps juga menjadi salah satu unggulan karena SB850 merupakan chipset pertama yang mendukungnya secara native. AMD juga meningkatkan spesifikasi dari AHCI 1.1 ke AHCI 1.2. Proses fabrikasinya pun sudah diubah dari 130nm menjadi 65nm.</p>
<p>Pada artikel kali ini, kami menguji motherboard dengan pasangan chipset 890/SB850 dari Gigabyte. Adalah Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H yang kami uji kali ini. Gigabyte membuat motherboard GA-890GPA-UD3H memiliki lebih banyak feature. Di antaranya adalah dipasangnya sebuah chipset NEC D720200F1 yang menambahkan dua buah port USB 3.0 di back panel-nya. Selain itu, dua buah chip BIOS terpasang di sana sehingga membuat para pengguna merasa aman saat meng-upgrade BIOS mereka. Untuk itu mari kita lihat motherboard ini lebih dekat!</p>

A9DA-S mendukung soket AM3 terkini, Phenom II dan prosesor seri Athlon. Ketika menggunakan mode RAID 0 (stripe), motherboard seri A9DA-S dapat menawarkan kecepatan data transfer yang ekstra cepat hingga 4x kecepatan interface SATA terdahulu.</p>
