Anyone who’s not quite pleased with the 768 MB GeForce GTX 460 should definitely check out the 1 GB version. A while ago, Digital Alliance’s 768 MB GeForce GTX 460 gave us a pleasant surprise with its relatively affordable price. At US$ 199, it exactly matches the retail price suggested by NVIDIA. Their 1 GB Sonic Version here is also quite interesting. The overclock margin is relatively small, but it’s still an added value nonetheless.
As we can see from the benchmark results, Digital Alliance GTX 460 1GB Sonic Version packs more than enough punch to run the latest games without showing too much slowdowns. This graphics card shows good performance in tessellation-heavy DirectX 11 titles, which are fast becoming the new gaming standard. It can handle high resolution gaming as well, up to 1920×1080, though the FPS may drop dangerously close to 30 FPS in some titles. The custom HSF is sufficient to cool this product well within the safe limit. As we mentioned above, we recorded a maximum core temperature of 75 degree Celsius during full load condition. The fan also relatively silent, we didn’t notice too much noise from it during our tests.
Digital Alliance GTX 460 1GB Sonic Version sells for around US$ 260, considerably higher than NVIDIA’s US$ 229 suggested retail price for the 1 GB version of GeForce GTX 460. That extra 31 dollar will bring you a factory overclock along with a custom, non-reference HSF. Such additional cost may seem unnecessary for some, since overclocking can easily be done using a variety of softwares. Still, a pre-overclocked product is readily overclocked right off the box, and you can still add some more speed by manually overclocking it. The custom HSF will help you with that.
