Sharkoon SATA QuickDeck: an eSATA+USB Docking Solution
Testing Platform
As with any other storage solution, we also conducted a speed test to find out QuickDeck’s data transfer speed. The following platform was used in the test.
Processor: Intel Core i7 930
Motherboard: Intel X58
Storage: Patriot Inferno SSD 100GB, RAM Disk
Memory: 3x 1 GB DDR3, 2x 4 GB DDR3
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275
We used the RAM Disk software to measure the quality of Sharkoon’s eSATA controller
Test Results
HDTune
As for the data transfer speed, we obtained the numbers below from HD Tune.
From the graphs above, we can see that the QuickDeck managed to reach a data transfer speed of 125MB/s using the eSATA interface. That three-digit number should help saving some time in large data transfer scenarios, such as during system restore. QuickDeck’s USB 2.0 performance is not too bad at all.
QuickDeck’s write performance using the eSATA interface is also good, fast enough to handle most file copy with ease.
6 GB File Transfer
Again, we see excellent performance from QuickDeck’s eSATA interface. The results between 6 GB small files and large 6 GB file copy scenarios were not too far apart. However, you may have to be a little more patient when transferring small files through its USB 2.0 interface, as it shows some significant slowdown compared to the large file transfer rate.
