AMD Radeon HD 6870: Overclocked
Conclusions
Even under default condition, the AMD Radeon HD 6870 has a relatively high core speed of 900 MHz. Increasing that speed to 100 MHz or more, therefore, is not so hard. We managed to add an additional 125 MHz to the core frequency and another 200 MHz goes for the memory. It was nothing too extraordinary, really. Still, with that seemingly small increment, we earned around 4-11 percent performance improvements in games. Perhaps higher results would be made achievable using better cooling.
So, are you interested to overclock your brand new Radeon HD 6870? Overclocking softwares would usually cost you nothing other than download time. Remember those factory-overclocked cards that would usually appear after some time following the original release of a product? You can make one yourself using one of these free tools, and it won’t cost you a single cent. Do remember not too push it too hard, though. The last thing you’d want from this is some permanent damages due to excessive overclocking.
