Apple Drops Flash from Macs
Further extending the animosity between Apple and Adobe, beginning with the new MacBook Air models, Apple will no longer preinstall the Adobe Flash plugin in its computers. Customers who wish to view Flash content on the browser are expected to download the plugin by themselves.
In the past Apple has been criticized for not including the very latest version of Flash in their computers which leaves its customers vulnerable to any security breaches that may be present in outdated versions of Flash.
Apple spokesperson Bill Evans said in a statement to Engadget, “We’re happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe.”
It remains to be seen whether this policy applies only to Flash because by the same logic, Apple would leave third party plugins and dependencies to its users. Should they require them, they’ll be responsible for installing those plugins themselves.
