Review-NVIDIA GTX 460M: Mainstream Mobile Gaming, Fermi Style
Conclusions
The technical prowess of GeForce GTX 460M is indeed not as high as its desktop cousins. In fact, it seems like the GPU shares a similar base with the GTS 450, only the name is different. Despite this, it remains powerful enough to run most modern games with reasonable graphics quality and frame rate. For more recent DirectX 11 titles, you may have to do some extra compromises on the graphics details and screen resolution in order to make the game playable.
As for older DirectX 9 and DirectX 10-based games, the GTX 460 should have no trouble rendering the graphics at a fluid frame rate, even at higher resolutions such as 1920×1080. PhsyX features can be turned on as well for the extra visuals. In our Batman: Arkham Asylum test, the frame rate remained well above 30 FPS with PhysX turned on and set to “high”.
Suffice to say, the GTX 460M is an interesting graphics solution for gamers on-the-go. It sure isn’t as fast as its desktop cousins, but for a mainstream mobile graphics solution, the performance is good enough to ensure satisfying gaming experience in today’s technologically-advanced titles.
