Review (Sapphire) AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB Graphics Card: No Power Plug Needed!
Conclusions
Judging from the overall test results, the (Sapphire) AMD Radeon HD 6670 appears to be designed primarily to play games at medium resolutions, like 1360×768, 1280×720, or 1280×1024. If you stick to these resolutions, you should be able to get acceptable frame rates in most DirectX 9, DirectX 10, and DirectX 11-based games, at least those that aren’t too demanding in terms of graphics processing power. Surprisingly enough, in “lighter” titles such as Left 4 Dead 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Radeon HD 6670 could still push 30+ FPS at 1920×1080.
Aside from being relatively powerful for its class, the Radeon HD 6670 doesn’t need to draw additional power from a PCI-Express connector. This eliminates the need to buy a power supply that is equipped with that specific connector (if you haven’t own one already). It also means that Radeon HD 6670’s power consumption should be well within the 75 watt limit, as that is the maximum amount of power provided by the PCI-E x16 port where the card would be plugged.
Overall, in our opinion, this product is quite satisfying. You won’t find too many extras inside its package, but the relatively affordable price compensates for that. Sapphire Radeon HD 6770’s non-reference Arctic Cooling HSF is doing a good job of keeping the temperature at acceptable levels.
So, is the Radeon HD 6670 the Best Choice in this Category?
You can buy the Radeon HD 6670 for as low as US$ 99 (online price). The Radeon HD 6670 is one of the best performers in that price category. Add a few more dollars though, and you can afford an even faster card such as the GeForce GTS 450, Radeon HD 5750, or even the Radeon HD 5770.
However, Radeon HD 6670 has its own advantage when it comes to power consumption. It consumes less power than all of the three alternatives mentioned above. From that perspective, Radeon HD 6670 is currently the fastest gaming card that doesn’t require additional electricity from a PCI-E power connector
Therefore, this particular Radeon is perfectly suited to cases where power consumption and processing power are equally concerned, as in HTPC systems that are also intended for casual gaming. It provides a nice balance between those two aspects, and don’t forget the relatively affordable price. With the Radeon HD 6670 you can build a fairly capable budget system that is both power-efficient and able to run most games with ease, albeit not at their maximum graphics settings.
