Day One: Santana in Live Performance

Thousands of people flocked to the JIExpo area at Kemayoran, North Jakarta last Friday (4/3), on the very first day of the event. This year, we saw the performance of numerous world-class jazz artists at Axis International Jazz Festival 2011, including Santana, George Benson, Fourplay, Corrine Bailey Rae, Sondre Lerche, and many more. Local musicians were also awesome on stage. Dira Sugandi, Tompi, Barry Likumahuwa Project, Sandy Sandhoro, and other Indonesian jazz artists took turns mesmerizing the audience with live music shows. The “Remarkable Indonesia” Java Jazz Festival 2011 was a joint project between Java Festival Production, the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The first day that served as the “warm-up session” towards the next two days was crowded nonetheless. Thousands were seen crowding each venue, spread across the JIExpo area. That night was all about jazz alright!
